This pheromone lure attracts male orange wheat blossom midge (Sitodiplosis mosellana), a major, sporadic wheat pest capable of causing significant yield and quality losses. Used in monitoring of wheat midge, it provides an early warning to guide timely and targeted control measures.

How to use:

Place traps at crop height once the flag leaf sheath is swollen, using at least two traps per field. Check traps frequently (daily) until flowering.

Catch thresholds of 30–120 midges per trap per day indicate a general risk; over 120 midges signal a high risk requiring prompt action.

About the pest

The orange wheat blossom midge (wheat midge), is one of the most damaging cereal pests. Adult midges emerge in late spring and lay eggs on developing crop ears during heading. The larvae feed on young kernels, reducing grain size and quality. Symptoms include distorted or shrivelled grains and uneven ripening. Infestations can spread rapidly if not detected early, making monitoring during the flight period essential. Economic damage thresholds are well established, making this pest ideal for control through targeted monitoring and intervention.

Storage:

Store cold, preferably in the freezer

Shelf life:
